Jack and the Beanstalk
Once upon a time there was a poor woman and her son Jack. One day, Jack’s mother told him to sell their only cow at the market. A man said, “I will give you five magic beans for your cow!” Jack agreed. Jack’s mother was angry. She threw the beans outside. A beanstalk grew up to the sky. Jack climbed up the beanstalk. He saw a kingdom in the sky. Jack went inside the castle. He heard a loud noise, so he hid. A Giant came inside. The Giant had bags of gold coins and he counted them. Then he fell sleep. Jack took the gold coins, he climbed down the beanstalk, and went home. Then time passed. Jack and his mother had no coins left. Jack climbed the beanstalk again. He hid in the castle. Jack saw the Giant holding a chicken. The chicken laid an egg of gold. Jack waited for the Giant to fall asleep. He took the chicken and climbed down the beanstalk. Jack and his mother had many golden eggs. But after a while, Jack remembered the beanstalk. Jack climbed the beanstalk again. He hid in the castle. Jack saw the Giant with a magic harp. The harp played beautiful songs. Jack waited for the Giant to fall asleep. Jack took the harp and he was almost outside when the magic harp spoke! It said “A boy is taking me away!” The giant woke up and saw Jack. The Giant ran after Jack. But Jack was small and fast. He started to climb down the bean stalk. The Giant saw the bean stalk and started climbing down after Jack. The Giant was coming closer. Jack ran inside his house. He found his axe. He cut down the bean stalk. The giant fell and died. Jack and his mother lived well with the golden eggs. And Jack never returned to the sky kingdom. The End.
I think the magic beans created an opportunity for Jack, but magic also brought trouble. The story makes us think about questions like, how many times can you be lucky?
